Maureen Denise McCormick was born on 5 August 1956, in Woodland Hills California the youngest and only daughter of Richard and Irene McCormick. Her father taught at school, while her mother was a domestic worker. Her older brothers are: Michael Dennis and Kevin. From a young age McCormick enjoyed singing and dance and would often put on puppet shows for the neighborhood children. Her rise to fame as a fairytale began when she was crowned the Baby Miss San Fernando Valley contest at the age of 6 which led to being contacted by an agent for talent Pat Domigan of the Jack Wormser Agency who asked if she'd like to be in show business. Her first major role came during 1964, when she appeared in a television commercial featuring Mattels new Baby Pattaburp doll. The following year she appeared in another commercial for the companys Chatty Cathy doll and was later cast in the show Wind It up until It breaks in the La Jolla Playhouse. The Brady Bunch McCormick won an audition in 1969 from over more than 1200 children to become the oldest of the three twins on The Brady Bunch TV series The Brady Bunch, starring Florence Henderson as a newlywed together with Robert Reed. The show ran for five seasons. In her book Heres the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice released in 2008, McCormick disclosed that during the fifth season, she was close to losing her virginity to her onscreen co-star and brother Barry Williams. She was just 16 at the time and he was just 19. This would have occurred as she describes. But, the time for our marriage was not right.
