Maureen Denise McCormick, the sole child of Richard McCormick and Irene McCormick, was born in Woodland Hills California on 5 August 1956. Her father was a schoolteacher and her mother was a stay-at-home mother. Her older brothers are: Michael Dennis and Kevin. McCormick always enjoyed performing, dancing and creating show puppets. When McCormick was six years old, she won an award in the Baby Miss San Fernando Valley pageant. Pat Domigan at Jack Wormser Agency phoned to ask her if she'd like to go into the show business. McCormick was offered her first major role when she got a part as a television character in the 1964 commercial of Mattels newest baby doll Baby Pattaburp. In the following year, she starred in another commercial for Mattels Chatty Cathy doll and was later cast in the show Wind It up and It Breaks in the La Jolla Playhouse. The Brady Bunch McCormick won the 1969 audition of more than 1200 children to become the oldest of the three twins in The Brady Bunch TV program The Brady Bunch, starring Florence Henderson as a newlywed together with Robert Reed. The run of five years for the show proved to be a huge success. McCormick said in her 2008 memoir Heres the Story : Surviving Marcia Brady & Finding My True Voice she almost ended her relationship in the fifth season to Barry Williams, her co-star and brother on screen. The actress was sixteen years old, and the actor 19 at that moment. The two of us could have been in a relationship, said she. But the timing wasn't just right.
